Autumn

© Julie L. O’Connor
There’s a crispness in the air that greets the morning sun, a feeling of anticipation, a new day has begun.
Harvest days are ending, winter is drawing near, yet in between is surely the most special time of year.
They call it Indian Summer, and it seems to fit the bill, for it’s as if the Lord took a feathered brush and painted all the hills. Now as I sit contented, atop of one of these, a book in hand to pass the time, the sound of a gentle breeze,
I can almost imagine an Indian child upon this mountaintop, looking down at the land of her forefathers, lost within her thoughts
For in every persons lifetime some heartache may occur, but on these hills in quiet solitude, God helps us to endure. So I say that the eyes are a window, beauty is found within the soul, and upon the hills of Autumn, that are strewn with red and gold.

  1. Having spent my entire life in Michigan, I know the cold snaps and the ‘Indian Summers’. I appreciate both of these. However, I find that my favorite things about fall are the smells; an autumn breeze, fallen leaves, rain in the air, spices wherever you go, the dirt as you turn it to harvest potatoes, etc. I am sure that everyone, given the chance to reflect on their favorite autumn thing, would have an associated smell that helps make it special. Enjoy it while it is here, everyone! It always goes away too quickly.

  2. This is a great giveaway. I have seen on the other sites that y’all want us to let you know what we like about fall. Besides hunting, it has to be all the cooking. From fresh apples to pumpkins to wild game, it’s especially interesting for me this year as I am currently eating paleo. So every thing I make is new and healthy.

  3. My favorite fall food, that’s a hard one. From fresh apples to pumpkins to wild game, it’s especially interesting for me this year as I am currently eating paleo. So every thing I make is new and healthy. But so far my favorite has to be pumpkin

  4. Hmmm, favorite fall food… So hard to choose one! I have been on a muffin kick recently, experimenting with different seasonal ingredients like apples, pears, pumpkin, and squash. Enjoying ginger-pear muffins right now! Yum!

  5. My favorite fall food is warm, comfort food – mac and cheese, soup, spiced apple cider, apple crisp, and pumpkin pie!
