I love little known holidays. I think that each and every day should be celebrated and enjoyed.
Today is Make a Difference Day. Ever heard of it?
This little known holiday was established in 1990. The main focus of this holiday is to do something to better your community or help out a neighbor. Millions of Americans particpate in various commnity improving projects on this day.
For many years, and supposedly still currently, former president Jimmy Carter helps build houses for underprivledged areas.
I did a bit of research and the Make a Difference Day foundation has a pretty neat website. You can even do a project seach to find local projects that are happening so you can get involved. Check it out….Make a Difference Day
One of the many plans I have for when I move to the big farm is to give back to the community as much as possible. I would love to adopt a family each year and help provide fresh, organic food to them. I would also love to bring city kiddos in to help with farm chores so they can see where food really comes from.
Unfortunately I working all weekend so am not able to particpate in any official Make a Difference Day projects, but will definitely put this on my calendar for next year.
What can you do today to help better your community?
Until next time…
